Designer Spotlight: Natalie Papier

This week, we’re featuring Natalie Papier, whose love of color, patterns, and texture helps create rich and vibrant interiors. If your heart beseeches color and has a love of bold graphic designs, then follow her on Instagram at @home_ec_op.

What elements define your specific design style?

Always art. Always color! I love pattern-mixing, whimsical elements, vintage, art, and color in my designs.

What are some of your biggest inspirations?

Art. I draw so much inspiration for color palettes from art. I'm always on the hunt for statement art that inspires the basis of my designs.

Do you consider aestheticism or functionality to be more important in the spaces you design? Why? Did you ever have to compromise one for the other?

Truly to have a well-designed space, these two things go hand in hand. With that said, I have been known to compromise on functionality for a pretty piece to pop.

What stuck out to you about the HomePop furniture pieces you used in your ORC design and why?

I wanted to incorporate color, texture AND functionality into the room. Having a pop of color and extra storage space in the decorative storage bench checked both of those line items. My client wanted a cozy reading chair as well. And nothing screams cozy like a Sherpa accent chair!

How did you gain your following in IG and what do you want people to recognize the most about you as a designer?

Honestly, little by little over 5 years. Sharing art, design, and color in a way that's authentic to me and reflective of my bold and whimsical style was just an outlet to start. But the biggest compliment is when a follower tells me that my designs are instantly recognizable as my own makes me feel extremely proud of the business I have built from a passion.
